RETROSPECT. international model united nations (imun)

(Seminar 66.664 SS 2009)

IMUN in SydneyIn the summer semester 2009 the ZNF under the lead of Prof. Martin Kalinowski organised its second Model United Nation Conference, this time international. After the success of the Simulation Conference of the Security Council on the Iranian Nuclear Programme in January 2008, an international follow-up project was started. This time the COP15 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which in the real world will take place in Copenhagen, just a couple of months later - in December 2009 and will work towards a possible successor to the Kyoto Protocol, was simulated. On 29th April and on 8th and 9th May 2009 29 students of 14 different nationalities from the University of Hamburg as well as students from the University of Uppsala in Sweden and The University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia got together with the help of modern videoconference technology to negotiate this timely and extremely relevant topic. This internationality gave the project a special appeal but also provided some new challenges in regards to the procedure of the conference and the communication methods.

Further information considering this course can be found under preparation for the conference, technology used and procedure of the conference.

The IMUN conference passed a resolution, which can be found here.

The conference was organized by Malte Göttsche, Sarah von Kaminietz and Frederik Postelt.
