Title: Of Polish Victimhood: How Wikipedia Captures Collective Memory (with Kasia Nalewajko)
Abstract:
Collective memories are difficult to measure. In this paper, we build on a conceptualisation of collective memory that distinguishes between specific narratives and schematic narrative templates and leverage natural language processing tools and Wikipedia revision histories on historic places, figures and events to measure their content and change over time. Focusing on the case of WWII memory in Poland, we present evidence that our approach allows us to capture collective memory.
