FAQ
What can I study at the ZNF?
At the ZNF, students of all faculties can take part in a variety of lectures and seminars dealing with Science and Peace Research, and also courses from the Curriculum Peacebuilding. You can find more information regarding the current courses in the corresponding subsections.
How can I take a course at the ZNF?
In principle, all courses from the ZNF should be open to any student in the “Freier Wahlbereich” (open electives), and should be selectable via Stine. In order to facilitate the selection of courses on Science and Peace Research, we assigned each course to a specific module. With this you can freely compose what you want to study. You can find the courses in STINE under “Fakultätsübergreifende Einrichtungen”. The courses of the Curriculum Peacebuilding are also selectable via STINE. If you have troubles with this, please feel free to contact us at: Friedensbildung[at]uni-hamburg.de.
How are credit points accredited?
Normally the accreditation of credit points for ZNF courses is no problem if you applied for the course through Stine, and if your major requires a complementary subject. If this is not the case, the course certificate can be accredited in your department’s appropriate office.
What is the Model UN?
In our MUN-seminars students can take part in simulated UN conferences: they take on the roles of delegates. This offers the opportunity to experience the dynamics of international disarmament negotiations.
For the preparation and realisation, students travel to real UN-conferences, for example in Geneva or New York. The students then have the opportunity to debate with actual diplomats from participating country's delegations, and to meet relevant NGOs, and scientists. This offers the chance to understand world politics from first hand experience.
What is the Colloquium "Security and Peace"?
In cooperation with “the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy” (IFSH), the ZNF organizes the colloquium “Peace and Security” besides its regularly taught courses. The colloquium offers in loose succession lectures by national and international experts on peace, security policy, and conflict resolution. The colloquium serves the interdisciplinary and cross-departmental dialog on current issues in peace research and policy. It aids in establishing and strengthening contacts between representatives of various institutions in Hamburg that are interested in peace policy. The goal is to kindle interest in cooperation on peace policy topics and goals.
